Role: Climbing and botanical assistant
Job Description: Alwynne is a PhD researcher looking at population events in Pine and Elm trees over the past 10’000 years in Europe and investigating the native status of Scots Pine in Ireland.

Dr Maria P. Long
Role: Ecologist/Malacologist
Job Description: Maria works part-time for the Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland (BSBI) as their Irish Officer, supporting members and botanical recorders, as well as working part-time as a university lecturer (mainly NUIG). She is also a molluscan specialist, and carries out surveys in Ireland and Northern Ireland for tiny, rare, protected snails.

Hazel Doyle
Role: Botanical field assistant
Job Description: Hazel completed a BSc in Zoology (UCD) and an MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation (TCD), conducting a habitat survey of Tullow town as part of her thesis. Hazel is a Guide in Ballycroy National Park and conducts bird surveys for various organisations.

Saorla Kavanagh​
Role: Botanical field assistant
Job Description: Saorla graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a BA in Botany in 2012. She is currently in the second year of her PhD under the primary supervision of Dr Blánaid White (Dublin City University), and is co-supervised by Prof Jane Stout (TCD). She is researching honey chemistry in relation to the landscape context in which honeybee hives are placed. Saorla is funded by the Irish Research Council (IRC).

Fernando Fernandez Valverde
Role: Botanical field assistant
Job Description: Fernando studied Forestry Science with emphasis in habitats and species conservation in Spain (Msc, BSc). He also completed a second MSc in Spatial Information Management (DIT) in Ireland. He is a professional ecologist with over 15 years work experience (12 years spent in Ireland) covering a wide range of habitats and species. He is currently the national expert providing scientific support on raised bogs and associated habitats conservation.

Louise Esmond
Role: Botanical field assistant
Job Description: Louise is a PhD student in the Trinity Centre for the Environment and the Botany Department TCD. Her research focuses on the toxicity of pesticides on freshwater ecosystems.

Conor Owens
Role: Botanical field assistant
Job Description: Conor studied Botany at Trinity College Dublin and became interested in plant, invertebrate and conservation ecology. He is currently undertaking a PhD there under Prof Fraser Mitchell and Prof Jane Stout looking at integrating biodiversity conservation and applied water treatment systems.

Sunniva Hanley
Role: Botanical field assistant
Job Description: Sunniva worked as a biology teacher and completed the M.Sc.in Biodiversity & Conservation (TCD 2014), this included a survey of turlough vegetation. She has a great interest in and continue to study the Irish Flora and also want to learn more about the diversity and ecology of other plant communities including those of tropical montane rainforests.

Hugh Tulloch
Role: Botanical field assistant and climbing assistant
Job Description: Hugh is currently working as an arborist. He works as a climber for a tree surgery company based in Kilkenny called Tree Services Ireland. Normally his job involves a lot of cutting and knocking so Honduras should be a nice change of pace for him.
